Public and Subsidized Insurance Programs

Access for Infants and Mothers (AIM).
The AIM program offers low-cost health care coverage to middle-income pregnant women and their newborns. Call 800.433.2611 or download the information pamphlet and application form at the Web site. www.mrmib.ca.gov/MRMIB/AIM.html

CaliforniaKids.
CaliforniaKids is an independent nonprofit organization that provides premium-subsidized, comprehensive primary health care services to children ages 2 through 18. 818.755.9700. www.californiakids.org

Health Insurance Premium Payment (HIPP) Program.
HIPP is a program within Medi-Cal that pays private health coverage premiums for some Medi-Cal beneficiaries. For information and forms, go to www.dhs.ca.gov/mcs/psd/TPL/HealthInsurSec.htm or call 866.298.8443.

Healthy Families Program.
Healthy Families is a federally and state-funded health coverage program for children with family incomes above the level eligible for no-cost Medi-Cal and below 250 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. The Web site offers information about completing the Healthy Families application. Many community organizations have been trained to help with the application process; some offer assistance in languages other than English. Kaiser Permanente Cares for Kids.
Kaiser Permanente offers coverage for uninsured children in families with incomes between 250 and 300 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, and who do not qualify for government-sponsored programs. Major Risk Medical Insurance Program (MRMIP).
MRMIP provides medical insurance for Californians who are unable to obtain coverage on the open market because of an illness or a medical condition. Participants pay premiums on their own behalf and the MRMIP supplements those premiums to cover the cost of care. 800.289.6574 or 916.324.4695. www.mrmib.ca.gov

Medi-Cal.
Medi-Cal is California's state Medicaid program, providing health care coverage for low-income families and individuals who lack other health insurance. For general information, call 888.747.1222 or 800.952.8349 (TDD service). www.dhs.ca.gov/mcs/medi-calhome/default.htm.

Medicare.
Medicare is for people 65 years of age and older, and some disabled people under 65 years of age. Phone 800.633.4227. www.medicare.gov
